Live Vibe – Whole Body Vibration Plate, when used with BioDensity, produces better balance and fine muscle control. It facilitates lymph drainage and is, in itself, a passive workout.
THE LIVE VIBE — Whole body vibration was developed in the 60’s to combat space astronauts’ bone and muscle loss. It has been adopted by athletes to produce faster results in training and to reduce training recovery time. It is known to increase muscle tone, simply by standing on it, in those who cannot engage in strenuous training programs. It aids in lymphatic drainage and is used by chiropractors as an aid toward structural symmetry. As a component of the DancingBones Program, it provides additional and complementary benefits. You may find it “feels like a good massage.” In tandem with a Biodensity session, the vibe plate destabilizes the body through dynamic movement. This destabilizing forces the recruiting of other supporting muscles and initiates new neural pathways. The result over time – the extra balance and control enabling individuals to perform activities of daily living with far greater speed, balance and control.
About Live Vibe
About Whole Body Vibration in general
Dr. Mercola (mercola.com) has quite a bit to say about WBV. We quote here from his site.
Are you bored with your exercise routine? Have you reached a plateau? Are you in your senior years, struggling with physical limitations? Or are you too overweight to even get started?
Regardless of your current level of fitness, Whole Body Vibrational Training (WBVT) can probably help. It’s a type of exercise that can provide a host of impressive health benefits without taking up any extra time. In fact, you may be able to cut your workout time in half using a WBVT device such as the Power Plate.
(Note: at DancingBones we use both the LIVE VIBE and POWER PLATE whole body vibration platforms.)
Recent animal research found obese and diabetic mice gained similar muscle mass and insulin sensitivity improvements putting in either 45 minutes a day on a treadmill or standing on a vibrating platform for 20 minutes each day for four months.
WBVT May Offer Easy Choice for Morbidly Obese Individuals
A study was specifically designed to evaluate the benefits of WBVT on morbidly obese individuals who may have trouble exercising at all. According to lead author Meghan McGee-Lawrence, assistant professor of cellular biology and anatomy at Augusta University:4, 5“Our study is the first to show that whole-body vibration may be just as effective as exercise at combating some of the negative consequences of obesity and diabetes … for people who find it difficult to work out in a traditional way, our study suggests it may be possible to obtain some of the same beneficial effects of exercise in a … less strenuous way.”
Pete McCall, an exercise physiologist with the American Council on Exercise added, “Standing on a vibrating platform for 5, 10, 15 minutes can make cells stronger, maybe help them lose a little weight, and get them better prepared to eventually start exercising.”
You can complete your entire workout in a fraction of the time you’d have to spend on traditional workouts.
While vibrating platforms are safe for most individuals, including the elderly, the American Council on Exercise warns WBV is contraindicated for those with pacemakers, pregnant women, and those with a history of seizures, thrombosis.
However WBVT is not a replacement for exercise. it’s not a magic bullet. You will not reap the cardiovascular benefits of exercise by simply sitting or standing on the platform.
How Does WBV Work?
When standing on a vibrating platform, you increase the forces on your body. By increasing gravity, it effectively increases the G forces exerted on your body. Each muscle in your body reacts in a continuous flow of micro adjustments, contracting reflexively. By engaging up to 98 percent of your muscle fibers, including the fast and super-fast muscle fibers, you get greater rewards and shorter workouts.
The movement improves your muscle tone, balance and coordination. The net result is a dramatic improvement in strength and power, flexibility, balance, tone and leanness.
Health Benefits of WBVT
The benefits of WBVT are many, and the reason for this is because WBV stimulation affects not only your musculature but also your internal organs and glands, including your brain.
Your muscle spindles fire secondary to the mechanical stimulation produced by the vibrating plate, and this rapid firing of the muscle spindles causes a neuromuscular response that ripples through your entire body, causing a wide array of physiological changes.
|– Improve balance and proprioception
– Improve neurological conditions and right and left brain integration
– Fine motor skill/ and co-ordination
– Lymphatic drainage
– Muscle strength, especially explosive strength
|– Bone mass and mineral density, decreasing risk of osteoporosis
– Blood circulation, which can also stimulate tissue healing
|– Flexibility and mobility
– Increase secretion of serotonin and norepinephrine
– Speed recovery from injury and sport training
– Fitness in the elderly
– Reduce pain such as with fibromyalgia
– Decrease cortisol levels
Whole Body Vibration — A Valuable Exercise Tool for the Elderly
Seniors due to physical limitations, may struggle to stay fit.. By stimulating your fast- and super-fast muscle fibers, WBVT helps counteract muscle wasting, that occurs with age. It can also help loss of bone density by triggering the release of osteoblasts to build new bone. Without specific therapeutic exercise intervention, as you age, your existing bone is absorbed by your body while new bone is created to replace it. In the case of osteoporosis, the formation of new bone falls behind the rate of bone absorption, leading to thinner, more brittle bones. Adding WBVT may further boost your bone building results. NASA has also tested and confirmed that standing on a vibrating platform for 10 to 12 minutes a day helps prevent the bone loss that occurs during space travel.15
Other studies have demonstrated the elderly can make significant gains in other health and fitness areas using WBV, including improved physical function and quality of walking, equilibrium, pain reduction, vitality and general health.1617
